Marriage
There are two stages of marriage that must be completed by Iranians
residing in the United States of America who want to register their
marriage with the Iranian government.
The first stage is based on the local rules and regulations of their
state of residence. The parties involved must present themselves with
their government issued identification cards at the local Recorder’s
Office in order to purchase their marriage license. After purchasing the
marriage license, they must contact an authorized person to perform
their marriage and then send documentation to their Country Recorder’s
Office for their marriage to be recorded. This is known as a civil
marriage.
There are two types of marriage licenses. One is the Public Marriage
License, meaning that it is public record. For this reason, anyone
requesting a copy or information on the record will have access to it.
The other type of marriage license is the Confidential Marriage License,
which ensures that no one except one of the parties to the marriage or a
third party with a court order can look at the marriage information.
Individuals that want their marriage to be registered and recognized by
the Iranian government, such that one or both of the parties involved is
Iranian, are required to do the following: in addition to the
performance of a Civil marriage, an authorized center must perform their
Islamic marriage and both the Islamic and Civil marriage certificates
and corresponding documentation must be sent to the Interests Section of
the Islamic Republic of Iran for recording.
Our office is authorized to do both Civil and Islamic marriages. In
addition, we are authorized to purchase blank marriage licenses and make
them available for you. This allows you to avoid the numerous hours that
must be spent to commute to and stand in long lines at the County
Recorder to purchase a marriage license. We complete all the necessary
information on the blank marriage license, perform the marriage, and
send it to the County Recorder for registration. If required, we can
perform an Islamic marriage and issue the license at our office. We are
also available to perform at marriage ceremonies outside our office, at
your place of choice. The ceremony can be conducted in in Farsi,
English, or a combination of Farsi and English.
